1st Amendment

 – What it guarantees us as Americans

Having just celebrated our county’s 242nd Birthday this past 4th of July, we will be exercising our First Amendment Rights to Assembly at the Hillsborough Court House on Saturday, July 21 from 10 to noon to support the Second Amendment to the Constitution – the right to bear arms.

The Five Freedoms guaranteed us by the First Amendment to the US Constitution are:

  • Freedom of Religion
  • Freedom of Speech
  • Freedom of the Press
  • Freedom to Assemble Peaceably
  • Freedom to Petition the Government for a Redress of Grievances

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

Fifteen years after the US Constitution was signed on July 4, 1776, the First Amendment was adopted as Amendment One of the Bill of Rights on December 15, 1791.

2nd Amendment

The Constitution is the foundation of our country, and the Second Amendment is a piece of the very fabric of America as it protects our individual Right to Keep and Bear Arms.  The 2nd Amendment to the US Constitution was adopted December 15, 1791, as part of the Bill of Rights.

The Second Amendment states:

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

The current struggle over the Second Amendment is not for Congress or the Courts but with the hearts and minds of the American people.

The purpose of the grassroots Second Amendment Rally on Saturday, July 21, from 10 to 12 am at the Orange County Court House is to show our support and belief in the Second Amendment and the US Constitution.  There are opponents – anti-gun activists, opposition leaders and leftist funding available to change or repeal the Second Amendment.  This is a struggle over principles, not statistics.  One can make numbers support any position being taken.

Only the misuse of a gun is wrong and anything can be misused.  Just compare to drinking and driving and saying cars should be banned because of traffic deaths.  As citizens, we have a fundamental right to protect our own lives and property.  Our focus should be on the criminal, not the gun.

The majority of Americans do not want to ban guns for it is instinctual to defend one’s self and loved ones from danger.  After having been in several military conflict zones in foreign countries, where the majority of the local population did not stand up against their enemies, I realize that in the United States we would be able to defend and defeat any invading forces, not just our military but the average citizenry of our Country because of our right to bear arms.
