Conservative Values

I recently attended the funeral for Richard, the father-in-law of a good friend.

During the celebration of his life, it occurred to me that I have never been to a funeral where the list of material possessions was listed as part of the life of the one being remembered. The same was true in this case and is a reminder to us all that the most important things in life are our relationships and not our stuff. During the celebration of Richard’s life, his family and friends remembered him as a man who worked hard, building a successful CPA business, being a good provider and father for his family and a man of faith.

You may be asking, “What does this have to do with the Republican party?”  I would say everything. He enjoyed and exemplified all of the values that we believe and fight for as conservatives. The value of hard work and making your own success or failures without government interference. The importance of the traditional family unit, especially the father that provides both love, resources, and protection to the family. All things that many on the left believe that the government can and should provide. Finally, the freedom to worship and practice our faith according to our conscience and not what the government or some social elites think we should believe.

Consider the case that is currently being considered by the Supreme Court that would allow parents to “opt their children out” of curriculum, based on their religious convictions, that involves books with hyper-sexual themes or pornographic images. It appears from the line of questioning that the court is going to rule on behalf of the parents and not the government schools. Let’s pray that happens. Richard was a veteran that had fought for our freedom and lived in it. This is why as Republicans we fight for the values of hard work, family, and freedom.
